The Description of the DEAL Program

It is an irrefutable fact that in every organization today - whether it is Private, Public, Not-for-Profit or Voluntary - the active force is “people”. And people have their own way of doing things, influenced by past experiences which are motivated by their free will and mind.

The design of the Developing Extraordinary Active Leaders program is driven by the fact that the “people” dynamic within organizations is the reason why some organizations become great and others do not.

Car-four Learning Resources Inc. has been significantly influenced by the great business writers that we have worked with and been exposed to - such as Peter Drucker, Peter Senge, Barry Posner, Jim Kouzes, Daniel Goleman, Daryl Conner and John Kotter. And one thing that they all preach is that unless people are significantly motivated by their leaders, their organizations will never achieve their mission or vision.

The pedagogical design of the DEAL program has three inter-related pillars as its foundation - LEADERSHIP, COMMUNICATION and CHANGE.

The Leadership component of the program is based on our underlying belief that people must fervently want to lead and also understand how to lead. Leadership does not belong to a position in an organization, but, is available to anyone who chooses to lead. To help master this part of the program, we will use the Leadership Challenge model as developed by Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner. As such an integral part of the program will be pre-program work assignment - The Leadership Practice Inventory (LPI), which must be completed by everyone participating

Communication is something we all need, yet very few of us are masters. It is often said that most major organizational initiatives fail because of inadequate attention to the “communication” factor. This part of the program will enable participants to actively begin the process of practicing time-proven methods of effective communication.

There is not an individual working today that has not been impacted by Change and the speed at which it is coming at us today. Many management thinkers have said that leadership and change are linked so tightly that it is hard to distinguish one from the other. This section of the program will provide a systematic model for leading change as well as a realistic hands-on simulation application.

The unique post program components of the program will keep the in-class portion of the program alive, by linking the participants electronically to three “webinars” focussing on the pedagogical pillars - Leadership, Communication and Change. By doing so, the participant will not lose the great learning that always happens once individuals return to the fast-paced organizational life.

The final component of the program is a one-on-one “coaching” session with the facilitator of the program that will help participants to focus on achieving set goals for becoming an Extraordinary Active Leader.
